Jack Berlin
Senior Managing Director, Investments
Mr. Berlin joins Castle Lanterra Family Office with over 25 years of industry experience as Senior Managing Director to further enhance Castle Lanterra’s investment platform. He will take an active role in sourcing and underwriting alternative investments, as well as evaluating investment risk with a focus on credit-specific risk. Mr. Berlin is an active member if CL’s Executive Committee.
Most recently, Mr. Berlin served as a Senior Analyst for Millennium Management where he was responsible for sourcing and investing in distressed debt opportunities. Before Millennium, Mr. Berlin was a Vice President at Starwood Capital Group and was involved in underwriting and closing over $2bln in loans on the company’s balance sheet. While there, he also served as lead for assessing corporate credit risk across Starwood Property Trust / Starwood Capital entities. Mr. Berlin also consulted to several hedge funds on operational and debt restructurings, and lp buyouts including OSS Capital, run by Oscar Schafer, a frequent CNBC contributor and former Barron’s Roundtable Member. Mr. Berlin was a Partner and Head of Corporate Research at Helios Advisors, a deep value distressed debt focused hedge fund with $600 million AUM, as well as Vice President at Platinum Partners, a multi-strategy hedge fund with $2 billion AUM, where he was focused on investing in trade claims in major corporate bankruptcies. Prior to Platinum Partners, Mr. Berlin was a Managing Director at Breakwater Group, a private investment company and a Senior Associate at Sterling Capital, a private equity firm with $4 billion AUM. Mr. Berlin started his career as a Product Specialist at Bankers Trust Company.
Mr. Berlin received his B.S., cum laude, in Finance from Yeshiva University, SY Syms School of Business and his M.B.A. in accounting, entrepreneurship and finance from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.
