Harbor Pointe – The Revitalization of Bayonne Continues with 1888 Studios

The revitalization of Bayonne continues with the addition of 1888 Studios. Named after the year Thomas Edison invented the motion picture camera, 1888 Studios is reported to be the country’s largest ground-up film studio with construction slated for 2023.

The plans have gotten rave reviews from industry insiders, and project officials estimate the nearly $1 billion project is an investment in the city that will bring hundreds of millions of dollars to Bayonne, as well as thousands of new jobs and residents to the former Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne (MOTBY), now referred to as “The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor.”

The 1.5M SF movie studio is to be constructed on the former Texaco site at the terminus of Avenue A. At the southernmost tip of Bayonne, the site is surrounded by the Bayonne Bridge to the east, the Caschem West site to the north, and the Kill Van Kull to the west and south.
